Kindle Tips

ideal for editors, agents, publishers, and other heavy personal document readers.

I love my Kindle.

It’s beautifully designed, it’s a pleasure to read on it, and they did a marvelous job at their stated goal of “making it disappear in your hands.” the screen is remarkable: the e-Ink technology is excellent, and doesn’t lead to any eyestrain at all, unlike the other devices I’ve tried to read from in the past. It does make the screen black every time you turn a page, which is irritating — but all the ereaders seem to do that; the Kindle does it for a shorter time and less intrusively than any other reader I’ve seen.

I know for me, it’s almost invaluable already. and I’ve sold at least three other agents on it. I can email manuscripts to myself, even when I don’t have it with me; I can make notes on manuscripts while they’re in my hand – and I don’t have to carry manuscripts around anymore, or plan when I’ll be able to carry them home, which further delays my ability to read them in a timely manner.

I also eagerly look forward to traveling with NO BOOKS. or maybe one. it will lighten my luggage SO MUCH, whether for a weekend trip or a long journey.

However:
It has some problems — which I’ve already written them about and gotten instant feedback (“from the Kindle team”: kindle-feedback (at) amazon.com (replace “at” with the @ symbol) ) Most of my issues with it have to do with using as both a personal and professional tool: using and sorting the notes is the most challenging part.

This blog is intended to serve the purpose of listing these problems, notes, and workarounds for all my friends and associates who use it as a professional tool. Feel free to write in and let me know your own comments and suggestions!
